At a time when the world economy is about as profitable as a pair of fake Manolo’s on ebay, it’s not exactly feasible to take an exotic journey to Hong Kong, host an incredibly elaborate Super Bowl party or dine at the uber-fabulous new buzz-worthy restaurant. Luckily, living in the Upper East Side makes it fairly simple for you to live like a king. Here’s the Hotel Wales plan forĀ how to really live it up and not spend more than $100.
1. If the Giants go to the Super Bowl, you should be the first of your friends to plan a fun party. Don’t want all the hassle and schlepping? Forget about it! Gourmet Garage has a foolproof Super Bowl catering menu that won’t exercise your wallet too much. Chicken wings for 8.99/lb and a Tex Mex Fiesta with all the delicious game-friendly dips is only $85 and serves 10 football fans. In other words, for less than $10/person, you can look like the best, most fun friend in your group.
2. The Chinese New Year is upon us. If you have never celebrated it, consider it this year. After all, it’s another reason to party. Ever eaten at Pig Heaven on Second Avenue? They were featured on the Travel Network last November. Don’t let the casual name fool you – this is tasty Chinese food. Owner Nancy Lee is planning a big party from January 26-29 complete with a traditional Chinese dragon parade, singing, dancing and live music. The price is $70/person and a special menu will be served.
3. Ok, so suggesting a day at the museum isn’t exactly newsworthy. However, Hotel Wales is so close to all the museums that it just makes sense to mention it. When was the last time you spent a carefree afternoon wandering through the Met, really? And the last time I stood in the middle of the entryway to the Guggenheim, I just stared up at the ceiling, transfixed and amazed. Plus, it’s a cheap way to spend a great day. Afterwards, grab some deli at Food Emporium, set a blanket down in the park, and just “be.”
