If you are anything like your resident Hotel Wales blogger, you love the movies. I get a huge rush when I walk down the street and see something being filmed, whether it’s a TV show, a commercial or a major motion picture. Yes, it’s kind of annoying that the streets are sometimes blocked off, but it’s still so exciting to imagine catching a glimpse of a famous actor.
There are countless movies that have been filmed in the Upper East Side over the years. For instance, the movie Hitch with Will Smith and Kevin James featured scenes filmed in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. After Albert calls Hitch, the Date Doctor, to get advice on how to make the glamorous Allegra Cole fall in love with him, Hitch arranges a meeting on the steps of the Met.
Who doesn’t remember When Harry Met Sally? It was in the Egyptian room of the Met Museum where Sally surprised Harry by telling him that she had a hot date. Harry then told her about a theory he had that all hieroglyphics were really just a comic strip about a character named “Sphinxy.”
The Playground on Madison Avenue is just steps from Hotel Wales. In the Robin Williams movie, The Fisher King, the Playground was transformed into the Central Park West castle of billionaire Langdon Carmichael.
So many movies have been filmed near Hotel Wales over the past several decades. Check out this cool map of movie filming locations.
