Hotel Wales

I was walking down Third Ave. the other day in desperate need of a cup of coffee. I was cold, I was tired and I was highly under-caffeinated. I stopped in the middle of the street when I noticed a new location of Crumbs Bake Shop. What did my eyes behold? Cupcakes and coffee galore….all within a few steps of Hotel Wales.

If your personal trainer has threatened you with your life if you step foot in this place, I highly recommend that you take the risk. Ever been to Sprinkles? I think it is just as good, with even more available flavors. Now, before you start commenting like wildfire, just know that I understand that cupcakes in New York City are a highly debated topic. Some people believe Magnolia Bakery has the best. Some think the bakery is only popular because appeared on an episode of Sex and the City. Others tout the delicious characteristics of a Sugar Sweet Sunshine confection. Me? I like Crumbs. Imagine a chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake…or one flavored with real Oreos. They are as beautiful as they are tasty, (as witnessed by the photo above that I simply couldn’t resist taking with my Blackberry.)

Am I a cupcake snob? Not really. If someone offers me a cupcake, trust me, I am eating it. But if I am going to sacrifice all those calories, I certainly am not going to choose a sub par confection. In short, take a stroll from Hotel Wales and have a cupcake. After all, this is New York….you are going to walk off the calories eventually.
