Fashion’s Night Out Kickoff

September 11th, 2009

The streets of Manhattan throbbed even more than usual Thursday night, as shoppers took Vogue Editor Anna Wintour’s Fashion’s Night Out promotion to heart.

As a kick-off to New York Fashion Week, stores across the city — and in participating cities all over the world — stayed open until 11 p.m. to entice shoppers with entertainment, flowing refreshments and sometimes even their wares to would-be buyers.

The premise behind Fashion’s Night Out was simple: to aid the ailing retail sector, which is suffering as formerly credit-fueled consumers collectively decide to put their money into the bank, rather than in Balenciaga bags, during the ongoing recession.

Star spottings include everyone from Justin Timberlake to Charlize Theron to Rachel Zoe (I DIE.) Anna Wintour wore her FNO charity T-shirt with a Prada spring/summer 2009 skirt and skinny belt for a signing at Jeffrey with Hugh Jackman, while Sarah Jessica Parker wore her T-shirt with an Oscar de la Renta skirt. Kate Hudson dropped into Stella McCartney’s Manhattan store, Victoria Beckham was on the shop floor at Bergdorf Goodman and Sienna Miller joined her sister, Savannah, at Intermix.

July 31st, 2009

On September 10—the first night of Fashion Week 2010—participating retail stores across the five boroughs will stay open until 11pm and offer an array of in-store celebrations and promotions.

The first evening of New York Fashion Week, Fashion’s Night Out will encompass festivities galore— from inventive window displays to model and celebrity appearances. Champagne may flow; hors d’oeuvres may be passed. Rumors of musical performances, downtown barbecues, shoe capsules, limited-edition rings, and sweepstakes abound. Apparently there will be makeovers, brow bars, and haircut stations at sundry spots, too. (Source: www.fashionsnightout.com)

The directory of participating retailers will be announced soon, so stayed tuned to Hotel Wales.
