Head to the Met starting November 24 to see the famed Met Christmas tree. The Metropolitan Museum of Art continues its tradition of gorgeous tree-trimming with the annual presentation of its Christmas tree, a favorite of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world. A vivid eighteenth-century Neapolitan Nativity scene—embellished with a profuse array of diminutive, lifelike attendant figures and silk-robed angels hovering above—will adorn the candlelit spruce. Recorded music and lighting ceremonies will add to the enjoyment of the holiday display.
If you have never experienced the annual Met tree lighting ceremony, it is a moving and beautiful experience for even the most cynical holiday scrooge. The last time I saw the tree, it was an unplanned visit where I was just wandering the Met and happened upon it. Between the soft music playing, the incredibly life-like ornaments and the sheer “hugeness” of that tree – I found myself staring.
Our Upper East Side hotel is just steps from the Met, making a trip to all the great spots on Museum Mile an easy journey – even when it gets super cold.
